WHERE TO BEGIN?

Welcome back Humantific Journal readers. This week lets acknowledge a bumpy road. In the avalanche of news crashing on our collective shores we could not help but notice this take on the current economic picture referencing “uncertainty” and “paralysis”!

“WASHINGTON (AP) June, 2025 — U.S. economic growth will slow to 1.6% this year from 2.8% last year as President Donald Trump’s erratic trade wars disrupt global commerce, drive up costs and leave businesses and consumers paralyzed by uncertainty.”

In this moment of bumpy uncertainty we want to reach out to organizational leaders wrestling with the dynamics of an extraordinary degree continous change who might be feeling stymied by Uncertainty, Complexity, Volatility, and Info Overload at this time.

TURNING THE TIDE

It’s true that the road ahead is uncertain at best. Since this bumpy time is not our first rodeo through turbulence we can share that such cycles are often good moments to regroup, rally around values, purpose and pivots while forging ahead rather than lose momentum by freezing in "paralysis".

What we at Humantific do is work with organizational leaders who seek to deliberately, proactively, courageously TURN THE TIDE towards Organizational Adapatability and Complexity Navigation. Lets get out in front of the waves.

Some of our Humantific / SenseMaking for ChangeMaking clients have worked with us for a decade+ AND of course we are always open to new thinking partnerships and new adventures.

In this bumpy time organizational leaders might ask:

  • How might your organization ensure that you spend this uncertainty era wisely?

  • How might you tackle a small number of complex, long-avoided log-jam challenges facing your organization?

  • How might you emerge from this uncertainty era refreshed and better equipped with adaptive capacity to sail forward on the complex road ahead?

WHERE TO BEGIN?

With technologies and trends constantly arriving and departing, what are the enduring human skills needed to survive, thrive and lead?

Lets face it, now is probably not the moment for moon-shot, pie-in-the sky explorations but rather getting down to executing on some key drivers of your bumpy road survival capacity.

Here are three practical strategies for getting to work on regaining or creating MOMENTUM.

  1. UNCERTAINTY ERA STRATEGY TUNE-UP

Unlike by-gone eras, today effective strategies tap into the power of cocreation. Huddle your team and face the uncertainty full on. Looking at situations from different angles can take you to new places and find opportunities. Without throwing the baby out with the bath water a cocreated strategy tune-up is a good place to begin.

  1. TACKING CRITICAL CHALLENGE LOG-JAM

Feeling stuck with a challenge or set of challenges that have never been clearly defined? Systemic Challenge Framing can be a powerful tool to apply to such contexts as it creates a picture of how multiple challenges are interconnected. Unpacking complexity and looking at messes from a human systems perspective will help you find alternative solutions, and perhaps alternate challenges.

  1. BUILD COMPLEX ADAPTIVE CAPACITY

Teach your team to fish. Take the time to develop your team’s skills to navigate complex and uncertain situations, not as an exercise in abstraction but rather synced to the degrees of complexity now being faced by your organization and teams. This will be valuable not only in this cycle, but in the future too. These are strategic skills that endure.

Working in the US and globally we are always happy to engage in Possibility Conversations. It's a good moment to reject "paralysis" while embracing courage and forward motion! Being optimistic also helps!

We believe being stymied by Uncertainty, Complexity, Volatility, and Info Overload are workable organizational challenges. Let’s get to work!

Feel free to tell us about your adaptability dilemma!
